An EPUB reader for Apple TV.
Blad opens e-books in EPUB on Apple TV and sets them as one calm column in a typeface made for reading, large enough for the sofa. You turn the pages with the remote, and the book opens where you left off.
Out now, only from the App Store on Apple TV. Blad for iPad is coming soon.
Five titles free. Then one purchase. No subscription.

Bookmarks, search and your place.
Press Play/Pause to set a bookmark on the page. Up opens the table of contents, your bookmarks and a search through the whole book. Down lets you change the text size and the theme, or move to another place in the book.
After a jump, Blad remembers where you came from, so you can always get back.

Five sizes, three themes.
Choose between five text sizes and the themes Night, Paper and Sepia. The bottom of the screen shows how far you have come and how much time is left in the chapter.
With iCloud, your place in the book follows you to your other Apple TV.

For books without copy protection.
Blad reads EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 files without DRM: books from publishers and shops that sell without a lock, books in the public domain, and your own documents saved as EPUB.
Blad sets the text in its own typeface and does not use the book's own fonts or style sheets. Simple tables are shown as tables. Right-to-left text, such as Arabic and Hebrew, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean are supported; vertical text is shown horizontally.
Fixed-layout EPUBs open when every page is a single image, as in many picture books: they are then read like a comic, with spreads and zoom. Other fixed-layout books cannot be shown, and Blad says so plainly.
Your files stay where they are.
Blad has no store and no catalogue. It reads the files you already have, from the storage you already use, and it only ever reads: nothing in your storage is changed, deleted or shared.
- Get BladOpen the App Store on your Apple TV, search for Blad and download it. The download is free, and so are the first five titles you open.
- Connect your storageOpen Sources and pick where your files are. For cloud services you sign in on your phone with a QR code, so there is no password to type with the remote. Then choose the folders and files Blad may read.
- ReadYour titles appear in the library with their covers. Click one, and Blad fetches the file to the Apple TV and opens it. Next time it opens on the page you left.

No cloud account and no server? Choose Upload under Sources, scan the QR code with your phone and send the files over your home network. Upload takes PDF, EPUB, CBZ and CBR files. Step by step on the support page.
The limits, stated plainly.
- Apple TV
- Any Apple TV running tvOS 26 or later.
- File formats
- PDF (also with a password), EPUB, and comics in CBZ, CBR and CBT. Not MOBI or Kindle formats, and not comic archives that have a password, are split into several files or are packed as 7z (CB7).
- Copy protection
- Files with DRM cannot be opened. That rules out most e-books bought with a lock, and magazines that only live inside another reading app.
- Text mode
- Showing a PDF page as plain text needs a page with real text. Scanned pages have none, and in a few PDFs the fonts do not say which letters they hold; Blad then says that the text cannot be read.
- Upload from a phone
- Takes PDF, EPUB, CBZ and CBR files. They are kept in the app's cache on the Apple TV, which tvOS can clear when space runs low, so keep your originals.
- Price
- Free to download, and the first five titles are free. After that, a single in-app purchase of US$8.99 unlocks the full version, with no subscription. The price in your country is shown in the app.
- Privacy
- No account with us, no analytics and no advertising. Privacy policy.
- Languages
- The app is in English and Norwegian.
- iPad and iPhone
- Blad for iPad is coming soon. There is no iPhone version yet.
Good to ask.
Can I read Kindle or Apple Books purchases in Blad?
Usually not. Books bought in those stores are normally locked with DRM, and Kindle books are not EPUB files. Blad opens EPUB files without copy protection, and tells you plainly when a book is locked.
Which e-book formats work?
EPUB, version 2 and 3. MOBI, AZW, FB2 and plain text files are not supported. A book in PDF opens in the PDF reader.
Is the text large enough to read from the sofa?
The five sizes go from comfortable to very large, and the column is kept narrow enough to follow line by line from across the room. The first five titles are free, so you can try it with your own TV and your own distance.
How do I get an EPUB onto my Apple TV?
Put the file in one of your sources, for example OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive or a shared folder on your home network, and choose that folder in Blad. Or send it from your phone or computer with Upload.
